| 08/04/2008 - 4-0 Victory For Ladies |
|
“L.A. Ladies” (Lyme and Axminster) continued their unbeaten run with a convincing 4-0 victory at a windswept Sector Lane on Sunday. After an edgy start the home side took control after a superb cross by Emma Russell fell to their striker Amber Clarke, who buried the ball in the net. Minutes later, L.A almost doubled the lead when Amber struck the bar with a free kick from 30 yards. After half an hour of intense play Amber Clarke rounded off a fine team move with a precise finish from 15 yards. Some resolute defending ensured the score remained 2-0 at half time. Ten minutes into the second half Amber broke clean through and completed her spectacular hatrick. Despite a formational switch around, the ladies still upheld their tremendous play, due to an unfortunate injury keeper Nat Foster had to be taken to hospital after some heroic goalkeeping. Special thanks go to Mark Ward and Jade Watts who both tore onto the pitch to assist with the injury. Fortunately LA had a more than able stand in; Ros Parsons, making some important saves to secure a clean sheet was kept. After 70 minutes Gilly Linnane completed the scoring with a tidy finish under the advancing keeper. Player of the match goes to a hard-working Fiona Tyne who held Feniton off in centre midfield. A fantastic result considering the Feniton team is in the Premier division and L.A will be entering division two in August, a huge well done to all the squad and coaches Luke Clifton and Mark Bailey for producing such an excellent team result.
The victory was celebrated in true Tiger style

In a 3rd XI match abandoned due to the weekend's extreme weather conditions the Tigers suffered a string of injuries that may prove to be expensive.
Andrew Gage suffered an ankle injury and was seen to be treating himself (to some Fosters by the look of it) in the Clubhouse on Saturday following the return from Cheriton.
Lenny Bennett also went lame only a matter of minutes into what Dickson referred to as "a farce from minute one to the last". The most bizarre and perhaps most serious of the injuries was sustained by Imran Chowdhury who literally cut his fingers to the bone on a broken changing room window which the home Club did not deem fit to repair. The latest news is that Imran had been taken to hospital and was likely to undergo surgery to repair damaged ligaments. We all wish you well for a speedy recovery Imran. |

| 14/03/2008 - Pastures New For Watty |
Following his recent resignation as Axminster Town Ladies coach Mark Watkins has announced that he will also be stepping down as the Club's Commercial Manager. As if this announcement wasn't surprise enough Mark declared that his decision was driven by his intention to take up the First team manager's role at Seaton Town FC.
Although these changes will not officially take effect until next season Mark expressed his wish to take an immediate back seat in terms of his involvement with the Tigers. Matt Donnan will take on the Commercial activities, whilst Mark had already made arrangements for the management of Ladies Football. The Club website will for the time being be administrated by Stuart Dickson, Matt Donnan, and Mouse, although the Club would welcome volunteers to take on any of the activities previously performed by the disappearing Mr Watkins. Letters on a postcard to Club Chairman Mr Ray Self.
The new Tigers News Team (Dickson, Mouse & Donnan) would like to thank Mark on behalf of the Club for the massive contribution he made towards the Club's recent successes, not only in his official roles but generally for his incredible enthusiasm and unique commitment to make things work. "Tastes like Chicken".
If you are reading this Mark, please accept our congratulations and very best wishes for a successful career with Seaton Town..................well not TOO successful !! |

| 13/11/2007 - Golf Day 2007 |
|
The rain stayed away for a perfect day of golf, apart from some strong winds which asked some questions of the competitors. After waiting for Turvy and Snapper to finish their big breakfast’s everyone headed off to the tee to set off on the 4th Axminster Town Annual Golf Day and it was a resounding success. The day attracted 23 golfers to Lyme Regis Golf Club, which was in superb condition. Over the next 3 to 4 hours, or 7 in Barry Ebdon’s case there was plenty of competitive spirit between the groups. Jock Heighway had to consult the rule book after an incident on the green saw him deducted two points. Jock challenged this ruling in the clubhouse after the match. It was hard to work out why the usual carefree Jock was desperate for the points to be added back to his card until it was discovered he had 15 points and his son George had 16! There were some good scores brewing, although some (Beavor & Snapper) in the end were more worried about getting a drink!!! An after match meal was served in the clubhouse, where it was time to relax, socialise and have a beer. This year was one of the closest competitions since the day’s inception, with several players in the high 30’s and above. With Tiger Woods not present this year, others had the chance to win the Cup, donated by Les Bounds back in 2003 to celebrate the centinary of Axminster Town FC.
Harry Harris won the top prize with 43 points, an amazing days golf considering he played the entire course wearing a sombrero, gun belt and was constantly swigging a bottle of tequilla. Second place went to Les Bounds with 41 points & in third place was Johnny Ebdon on 39 points.
The longest drive competition was held on the narrow 16th and with accuracy a must it looked likely that if someone could only land one on the fairway it would scoop the prize. Tommy Garrett squermed a ball onto the front of the fairway and looked an unlikely winner until Simon Harris blasted a ball about 100 yards further on to scoop the prize. The only consolation for Tommy was that Simon hooked his second shot over the cliff and into the sea!!!
Nearest the pin on the par 3, 8th hole was a real ding dong affair with the lead changing hands several times. Despite being only 141 yards it was a testing shot in the wind. Harry Harris drew first blood as he planted on to the green some 25 yards from the pin, this was then beaten by Johnny Ebdon who popped one onto the green some 15 yards from the flag. With the last group of the day only left to play up stepped Johnny Hurford to slice one closer and pick up the winners tankard. As always, last place in the competition didn’t leave empty handed. This years recipient was Dave Gage, who was progressing to a full size course after a succesfull visit to Newquay pitch & putt, a suitably inscribed Tee-shirt was the prize.
A big thank you to Barry Ebdon, Lyme Regis Golf Club and all the players who attended the day. |
